How widespread is Human Trafficking?
Human trafficking is happening in every country of the world. Some of the facts below might surprise you. • 27 million people are in some form of slavery today. • 12.3 million people are victims of forced labor worldwide. (2.4 million are as a result of human trafficking.) • 600,000-800,000 people are trafficked across international borders each year. (80% are women and girls. 50% are minors. 18-20,000 are trafficked into the US, primarily women and girls.) •Human trafficking is the 3rd largest source of income for organized crime, generating $7 billion a year. •Trafficking for sexual exploitation represents 25% of the trade.
