Wenrich: Church ‘Built for Times Like This’

In a new video, John Wenrich, president of the Evangelical Covenant Church, reflects on the unprecedented challenges of 2020, the creative ways local churches and the denomination have responded, and shares Covenant plans to advance God’s mission in the future.

“We experienced so many challenges and losses that continue” Wenrich says. “Covid-19 rages on, continuing to impact our churches and the way we do ministry, as well as our communities, families, relationships, traditions, jobs, finances, and more. Each of us has experienced so much loss and change.”

Despite those tragedies, Wenrich says, “I am convinced that the church was built for times like this.”

Highlighting that churches of all sizes in all types of locales have creatively adapted existing ministries and started new ones, Wenrich shares how the denominational team helped provide new financial assistance for ministries, churches, and ministers.

They also moved their in-person trainings and print materials online while creating new resources to expand evangelism and social justice ministries. “Together, we are a multiethnic mosaic of mission friends proclaiming and demonstrating the whole gospel,” Wenrich says. “We will emerge from this crisis, not just three strands strong, but three strands stronger.”
