The Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) is seeking an Executive Minister (EM) to give leadership to one its five mission priorities, Develop Leaders. Within that capacity, the position also holds the role of the Executive Minister of the Ordered Ministry. Ordered Ministry and its board invests in the personal and vocational development of ECC clergy including processes of credentialing; life‐long learning; and care and discipline. The EM functions within all applicable provisions of the ECC Constitution and Bylaws as well as the Rules for the Ordered Ministry of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The EM regularly engages in developing initiatives to invest in clergy and lay leaders; consults with churches, regional conferences, and individuals; undertakes speaking, writing, and teaching opportunities; provides executive management for the area; and assumes other assignments that arise in the course of ECC leadership. In addition to the Ordered Ministry board, the EM serves on the ECC Council of Administrators, Council of Superintendents, and other commission and committee assignments.
Candidates will possess a deep faith in Jesus Christ, model healthy spiritual practices and share a commitment to the ECC’s affirmations, priorities, and practices. Candidates will be trusted for their character and collegial orientation. Ordination in the ECC is a requirement, with preference for Ordination to Word and Sacrament. Extensive local church experience is expected. Candidates will possess demonstrated capacity around:
a. Sound judgment
b. Identifying and prioritizing sustainable mission advancing opportunities in a collaborative
c. Recognized bridging ability to the diversities of the ECC
d. Cross‐Cultural Competency (across diverse backgrounds and contexts)
e. Selecting and developing teams
f. Collaborating across multi‐faceted systems and organizations
g. Mobilizing and supporting decentralized systems and ministry
h. Theological acumen
i. General administration
Relocation to Covenant Offices is required. Frequent travel is expected.
The ECC Annual Meeting elects the EM. One candidate will be nominated by the Nominating Committee of the Board of Ordered Ministry, with the concurrence of the ECC executive board and the annual meeting of the Covenant Ministerium. A candidate is expected to be identified in the second quarter of 2018.
