India Non-Formal Education
In the slum area surrounding the garbage dump in Mumbai, children are often forced to join their parents in working instead of being able to go to school. Children go into the garbage to look for anything that can be recycled and sold for cash. This puts children at great risk. Together with the Hindustani Covenant Church, we are providing a way out for these children. Through non-formal education, children are given the opportunity to learn, and receive a nutritious meal. This time is not seen as the ultimate answer, though. The hope is that this non-formal education will prepare the children and their families so that the kids can enter the government schools.
