Short-term mission opportunities (2 years) exist in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in economic development for those interested in accounting, micro-business, computers, and printing.

Accounting Training
The Covenant Church of Congo (CEUM) needs accountants fluent in French, an understanding of European accounting practices, and a willingness to combine western accounting methods with DR Congo culture and cultural sensitivities in dealing with money. This involves continued training for existing accounting staff in the denominational office, and in medical, development and educational offices and projects. The missionary will help to train new accountants, and to work alongside accountants and bookkeepers. The CEUM wants accountants who see accounting as Christian ministry. Lingala is the language people use most in work in Northwest DR Congo. Each short-term missionary will spend 2-3 months learning Lingala upon arrival in DR Congo.

Micro Business Personnel
The CEUM is looking for someone to be involved in micro-credit/micro-business seminars, project management, and mentoring in reporting and administration. The CEUM currently manages projects with Covenant World Mission, Paul Carlson Partnership, USAID, the World Bank, UNICEF and other partners. The CEUM wants experienced project managers who have experience outside of the US, have French ability, work well with others as co-workers and can serve as mentors. The goal is to increase capacity of CEUM members to plan, propose, manage, evaluate and report on projects in culturally appropriate ways that also meet the standards of the donor agencies. The CEUM wants managers and business people who believe that projects are a part of the ministry of the Church. Lingala is the language people use most in work in Northwest DR Congo. Computer and Network Maintenance and Repair
The use of computers by the CEUM is growing. Over 200 netbooks have come into the CEUM in the last five years. Experience with basic Windows XP, Vista and 7, networks, satellite internet, maintenance and repair, and dealing with virus caused problems are all helpful. The CEUM wants people to train Congolese staff and technicians in the use and maintaining of computers, printers and networks. Knowledge of French is necessary. Print Shop Maintenance, Training, and Repair
The CEUM has printed and sold booklets, tracts, courses, Bible studies, medical forms, school books and report cards, as well as government and private printing. The current technology is a Risograph EZ200, several photocopiers, ink jet printers, and an old but very useable platen printing press. French and Lingala literature is produced and sold. The CEUM wants to encourage local authors to write. The CEUM wants a person experienced with running and maintaining this type of equipment who can also train Congolese staff.
