ALBERTA, CA (August 22, 2011) – A funeral service for retired Evangelical Covenant Church missionary Evangeline “Vangie” (Ericson) Dennis will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Malmo Mission Covenant Church.
Dennis, 87, died Friday.
She was born on March 17, 1924, in Whitemouth, Manitoba. She completed her regular school in 1942 and began teaching at the age of 18. She married Vern Dennis on September 23, 1944.
The couple was commissioned to mission work in 1954 and served in Congo. The couple were the first missionaries to travel by air rather than sail to Congo. They concluded their missionary service in 1963.
Whether in Congo or in the United States, Dennis was known for incredible hospitality, demonstrating a willingness to take in strangers.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003, and a son, Neil, who died in 1971 at the age of 14. She is survived by one son, Bruce, of Salies-de-Béarn, France, and three daughters: Della, Glenda and Diane (Christopher), all of Edmonton.
Interment will follow at the Malmo Covenant Church Cemetery.
