WASILLA, AK (June 6, 2012) – Tom Luchsinger, pastor of Mat-Su Covenant Church, wants his colleagues’ sermons.
He doesn’t want them just for himself, but for the benefit of the broader denomination. He is collecting sermons from Evangelical Covenant Church ministers to include in a series of books that will be published in coming years.
“The idea is just to give life to these sermons and allow them to speak to a larger audience,” Tom says, adding, “it’s also good to hear from the broader church.”
Each volume will focus on one book of the Bible. His first publications will cover Genesis and Matthew. Sermons on the Pentateuch and Gospels are his top priority, although he will accept sermons for any of the books.
Tom says he hopes pastors will send him electronic versions of as many as three sermons to include in his project. Not all will be used, however.
Proceeds from the book will be donated to the denomination’s ministers’ crisis fund. The volumes will be self-published and printed on demand. The process will keep costs down because there will be almost no overhead.
In addition to serving the Mat-Su congregation, Tom and his wife, Dena, also have started their own publishing company, Crecer Publications. Dena, who has a master’s degree writing, serves as the publishing company’s editor.
A former Covenant missionary to Ecuador and Mexico, Tom notes that crecer is a Spanish word meaning “to grow.” He says the goal of the publishing company is to produce books targeting Christians who help others grow in faith and service as well as to homeschoolers.
Tom and his wife have homeschooled their three children. She also is a writing tutor at Mat Su College and has facilitated workshops and other educational opportunities for the homeschooling community.
She has written two books published by other companies, Playing by the Rules: A Story About Autism, and Sometimes Smart is Good.
