GOLDEN VALLEY, MN (February 13, 2017) – Retired Covenant minister Carold Anderson, 94, died Wednesday, February 8.
Carold was born on March 10, 1922, in Drayton, North Dakota. After graduating high school, he served in the U.S. Army during WW II and landed in Bonn, Germany, on the day the war ended. He served as a chaplain assistant to four chaplains.
Carold met Doris E. Berquist of Ogilvie, Minnesota, while he was home on leave. Discharged in 1946, he entered North Park College and was offered an internship at Kalamazoo Covenant Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Carold and Doris were married on October 23, 1948. He graduated from North Park seminary in 1952.
Carold and Doris served churches in Salem and Brandon, South Dakota; New Richland, Minnesota; Northlake, Illinois; Clyde, Kansas; Lakewood, Colorado; Staples, Minnesota; Rockford (Evergreen), Illinois; and Axtell, Kansas.
After Carold officially retired, the couple served interim pastorates in Mitford, Pharr, and San Juan, Texas; Aurora and Mead, Nebraska; Pomeroy and Albertville, Iowa; Vista, Minnesota. He had a profound love for the church and continued his interim ministry until he was 83.
Carold was gifted in music and the arts, which he taught to many in the communities he served.
He was preceded in death by his wife and son Johnathan Eric Anderson. He is survived by his brother Rev. Robert (Shirley) Anderson; two sons, Stephen (Kyong) Anderson and Mark (Sherri) Anderson; and two daughters, Janice (Rodney) Anderson, and Pamela (Curt) Christopherson; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 24, at Brookdale Covenant Church in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Interment service at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 25 at Thomastown Covenant Church in Staples, Minnesota. Condolences at Miller Funeral Home. Memorials preferred to Covenant Village of Golden Valley, benevolent fund.
