Services Scheduled for Willie B. Jemison

CHICAGO, IL (June 7, 2011) – A funeral service for Dr. Willie B. Jemison, 81, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakdale Covenant Church, where he was pastor emeritus. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. He died Sunday.

Jemison was born October 13, 1929. He graduated Chicago City College and Moody Bible Institute, taking classes at night and working during the day.

Jemison married Bessie Walker, on August 1, 1947. She survives.

He was ordained by the National Baptist Convention in 1965 and transferred his ordination to the Covenant in 1972. He served Oakdale Covenant from 1970 until his retirement in 2000.

Survivors include three daughters, Angelena Jemison-Smith, Regina Jemison-Berg, and Herlisa Truitt; and three sons, Lawrence Jemison; Steven Jemison, and Kyle Jemison.
