SCAMMON BAY, AK (September 19, 2011) – Jason Stromstad, pastor of Scammon Bay Covenant Church on the west coast of the Bering Sea, says the recent donation of an all-terrain vehicle “is a specific answer to prayer.”
Missions in Ministry provided the specially outfitted Polaris Ranger vehicle. The ministry out of Roseau, Minnesota, provides equipment to people ministering in locations where travel is especially difficult.
Traveling in the often-harsh environment already can be arduous, but Stromstad’s arthritis makes mobility even more trying. “The Polaris Ranger that the guys from Missions in Motion delivered will make it much easier for me to stay connected with people making it possible for me to remain in Scammon Bay for as long as God needs me here,” he says.
Scammon Bay is a Yup’ik Eskimo community that relies on fishing and subsistence activities. Most residents travel 50 miles to the north to the Black River each summer for fish camp.
“We knew that this vehicle would fulfill Jason’s personal transportation needs, but we also felt that it would be an asset that would benefit the entire community”, says Tony Fichter, president of Missions in Motion.
Polaris Industries as well as other companies that helped transport the vehicle to Scammon Bay were instrumental in making the gift possible, says Fichter. The ministry also solicited donations from individuals.
“When people heard about the need, they gave generously and from their hearts,” says Fichter.
