CHICAGO, IL (January 17, 2012) – Peter Sung has resigned his position as director of church planting for the Evangelical Covenant Church and will officially complete his duties March 31, it has been announced.
“I am so appreciative of Peter and the many gifts he brought,” says Dave Olson, executive minister of the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism (CGE). “He worked hard, connected very well with church planters and brought a level of spiritual insight that was rare and valuable as a leader of young leaders. He brought a younger, more postmodern perspective to the position and was very comfortable living in the multiethnic world of planting.”
Before joining CGE in 2009, Sung had served as an associate superintendent of the East Coast Conference, serving as director of church planting and revitalization.
He has extensive experience planting congregations. He planted six churches over a 12-year period. His last two church plants were Highrock Covenant Church in Arlington, Massachusetts, and Queenswest Covenant Church in Long Island City, New York.
Sung says that while serving in his current post and working across the country, “I have come to a greater appreciation of the Covenant.”
Sung has not settled on a particular ministry direction, but says, “I look forward to loving the Covenant from another vantage point.”
