Covenant Village of Northbrook Begins New Construction

NORTHBROOK, IL (July 22, 2013) – More than 75 percent of the apartments at Covenant Village of Northbrook’s new $30 million residential building, The Evergreen, already are reserved even though groundbreaking was just last Wednesday, officials said.

The 114,000-square-foot, three-story building will have 56 apartments for independent residential retirement living. Each floor will have a variety of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments ranging in size from 767 square feet to 1,480 square feet. The first-floor community room will overlook the pond on the 55-acre campus.

All of The Evergreen’s apartments will include full eat-in kitchens, washers, and dryers. Most will have a patio or balcony. The building will have an underground garage for 60 vehicles.

The Evergreen will connect to the Town Center by an enclosed walkway and blend architecturally with the other building. “The Evergreen will expand our supply of state-of-the-art residential accommodations,” said Covenant Village of Northbrook Executive Director Neil Warnygora.

“That will make us even more desirable to North Shore retirees who want to live in a vibrant residential community and know that if they need assistance down the road, the services they need will be available right here at Covenant Village.”

Covenant Solutions, an affiliate of Covenant Retirement Communities, will oversee development and collaborate with conceptual designer SB Architecture of Aurora, Colorado; implementation architect PFB Architects, who has an office in Chicago and is based in Cincinnati, Ohio; and contractor Leopardo, one of the nation’s 400 largest contractors, based in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Construction is expected to take 19 months, and occupancy is anticipated in early 2015. When The Evergeen comes on line, Covenant Village will have a total of 356 residential living residences including apartment and duplex homes; 58 studio and one-bedroom assisted living residences; and a rehab/skilled nursing center with 50 private and semi-private rooms.

Covenant Village of Northbrook is a faith-based, nationally accredited, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community. It is administered by Covenant Retirement Communities Inc., which is a ministry of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
