LOVELAND, CO (December 3, 2014) — A memorial service for retired Covenant minister Loyd Johnson will be held at 2 p.m. today at LifeSpring Covenant Church in Loveland. Loyd, 90, died November 23.
He was born May 12, 1924, in Bothel, Washington. He married Mary Thompson on September 28, 1946. She survives.
Loyd attended St. Paul Bible College. He served Covenant churches in various capacities. He ministered to youth in Minneapolis and Anoka, Minnesota. He served as pastor to Covenant churches in Hallock, Lancaster, and Lake Bronson, Minnesota; Reading, Marquette, and Lindsborg, Kansas; Haxtun, Colorado; and Wausa, Nebraska. He served as interim superintendent of the Midwest Conference from 1985 to 1986, and continued to serve with a non-Covenant international ministry for 20 years after concluding his pastoral ministry.
Additionally, Loyd also served on the Midwest Conference Executive Board, including two years as its chair.
In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by six children, sons Tim Johnson, Mark Johnson, and Jon Johnson; and three daughters, Maureen Waite, Laurel Johnson, and Carolyn Sheeler.
