LITTLETON, CO (March 20, 2018) — Inversion Covenant Church combined the ancient with the new during a St. Patrick’s Day outreach that included Irish dancers and a discussion of Celtic Christianity.
“I know it may sound strange, but we are finding that this is a perfect day to invite unchurched people to a family-friendly event,” said pastor Casey Franklin. “We had more than 200 people, which was large for us.”
“Saint Patrick was a great missional leader who was an incredible evangelist and missionary,” Franklin said. “He started the kind of incarnational, missional movement for an entire nation that lasted for more than 100 years. It’s exactly the kind of movement we need today!”
Franklin and New Testament scholar Stephen Pegler gave a presentation on Celtic Christianity. “I believe the unchurched/post-Christian culture we find ourselves in resonates with this approach to Christianity,” Franklin said. Such theological foundations include a commitment to the Nicene Creed, the equality of all people, stewardship of creation, and the incomprehensible mystery of God and his immanence in creation.
The day was more than academic, however. It also included a variety of activities that ranged from face painting to Irish step dance performances.
The church even had a 1972 Lotus sports car on display. Franklin explained, “The Lotus is a British car. Everyone assumes St. Patrick was Irish, but he was really British.”
