HOUSTON, TX (September 7, 2017) – Covenanters have contributed more than $70,000 to help victims of Hurricane Harvey. Those funds are already being put to work by local congregations in Houston.
Centro Cristiano Las Buenas Nuevas, a new Covenant church plant that shares a large building with Ashford Community Church (a congregation that has partnered closely with the ECC), has become a major distribution area for a section of Houston that was among the hardest hit after water was released from the Addicks Reservoir.
Hope Community Covenant Church also has become a food and distribution center together with a community partner that operates a food pantry.
Access Covenant Church and Woven Covenant Church are helping neighbors in multiple ways that include cleaning debris and helping to restore homes.
The homes of multiple Covenant families were destroyed or severely damaged by the flooding. Like many in Houston, some of those families had no flood insurance because they lived in areas that were not considered at risk.
People still are being evacuated from some areas as water is released upriver or threatens to overflow levees.
