Why Kids Stop Reading for Fun by Age 9

A recent reading survey by Scholastic indicates a huge drop in the percentage of kids who read for fun between the ages of eight and nine. This article suggests that parents can reverse the trend.

From the article: “According to the report, the percentage of kids defined as frequent readers—those who read books for fun five to seven days a week— drops from 57% among 8-year-olds to 35% among 9-year-olds. Between ages eight and nine, the number of kids who say they love reading plummets from 40% to 28%. What happens during this year, and more importantly, what can parents do to keep their young readers reading, willingly?”

Dad! No cane!”’ Gina Ross said. ‘He told me, “I didn’t want to tell you in case I couldn’t make it happen, but I wanted to surprise you with this dance.”’

Rituals of Honor in Hospital Hallways

Hospital staffs across the country have been standing along hallways to show their respect as dying patients are wheeled to the operating room to donate their organs.

From the article: “With the consent of loved ones, and with the operating room ready for organ donation to begin, hospital leadership invites all staff members to participate. In my hospital, …the clothing in the crowd reflected the different jobs we’d been pulled away from: There were white coats and ties, crumpled blue scrubs, bouffant surgical hats and expensive pinstripe suits.”

8 Reasons Why Pastor Need to Serve in Nursery for a Sunday

All the nursery and preschool workers shout, “Amen!”

From the article: Reason 5 – “It will keep you humble. Change a few diapers. Try to teach a Bible story to 2-year-olds. Work to keep little ones happy and excited for over an hour. Recognize that your ‘listeners’ aren’t going to say, ‘Good sermon’ or ‘A great word today!’ Serve in a place where you won’t get much glory—and let God humble you.”
