Devyn Chambers Johnson to Join Serve Clergy

Devyn Chambers Johnson will join Serve Clergy as the new director of compelling preaching.

Preaching, at its best, emerges from the deep conviction that God speaks timely and compelling good news through the lives and words of preachers. The Evangelical Covenant Church, with support from the Lilly Endowment, has launched the Compelling Preaching initiative to foster effective gospel proclamation to diverse audiences. Our mission is to empower pastors to infuse their preaching with vitality and relevance, enhancing the spiritual life of congregations.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Devyn Chambers Johnson as the new director of Compelling Preaching. Devyn, alongside her husband, Ryan, has served faithfully within our community and brings a wealth of experience and passion to this role. With over 15 years of service to Covenant congregations and as the founder of the Four More Women in the Pulpit movement in 2017, Devyn has demonstrated remarkable leadership. She received her doctorate in ministry in 2020 and is an adjunct professor at North Park Theological Seminary.

As director of Compelling Preaching, Devyn will oversee ministry initiatives focused on pastoral formation, exemplary preaching, and development of preaching cohorts. She will also collaborate with the director of Spiritual and Vocational Development to create new training and development opportunities. Her work will be crucial in guiding and fostering the professional growth of our pastoral community in an ever changing cultural landscape.

This role is integral to strengthening the mission and ministry of the Covenant, coordinating with denominational offices, regional conferences, local congregations, and affiliate ministries. We are filled with anticipation as Devyn steps into this new role with Serve Clergy. We look forward to the impact she will make in shaping the future of preaching within our community.
