NPU Soccer to Compete in National Tournament

CHICAGO, IL (November 7, 2011) – The North Park University men’s soccer team will take on Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division III national tournament. While the time of match has not been finalized, it will be played at either 5 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. (CST).

The Vikings needed an invitation because they fell just short of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship when they lost 3-2 in overtime against Carthage. The conference champion earned an automatic bid.

The Vikings, who were ranked nationally for several weeks, garnered the invitation based upon their 11-3-3 record. Luther finished the regular season 15-3-2.

This will be the fourth trip to the national championships for the Vikings, who competed in the 2005, 2006, and 2010 tournaments.
