Obituary: Marguerite ‘Peg’ Anna Johnson

BATAVIA, IL (July 16, 2018) – Marguerite “Peg” Anna (Gundersen) Johnson, former missionary to Ecuador and widow of Covenant pastor and missionary Larry Johnson, died Sunday, July 8 at the age of 94.

Peg was born on July 22, 1923, in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of Anna (nee Olsen) and Helmer Gundersen. She graduated from North Park Junior College.

She married Larry on December 30, 1944. He preceded her in death in 2008.

The couple served Salem Covenant Church in Washington Depot, Connecticut, before serving as missionaries in Ecuador from 1947 to 1952.

Peg worked for 30 years at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, retiring as director of materials management in 1985. She volunteered with multiple Covenant organizations.

She is survived two daughters, Pamela Wilkins of Pocasset, Massachusetts, and Carol Booth (Ron) of Foxboro, Massachusetts; a son, Neil Johnson (Karen) of St Charles, Illinois; four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at The Holmstad in Batavia on August 25, where Peg was a resident. Inurnment will be held privately at North Park Covenant Church in Chicago.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to The Holmstad Benevolent Care, 700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia, IL 60510.
