Pete Sutton has joined the denominational team of the Evangelical Covenant Church as the new director of youth and young adults. He will serve alongside other Serve Locally staff, working to strategize, develop, and lead discipleship resources, programs, and initiatives for ministry teams working with youth and young adults in Covenant churches and affiliate ministry partners.

“I am humbled and honored to serve the Covenant Church in youth and young adult ministry,” said Pete via email. “Throughout my years, I’ve had many wonderful interactions with churches, North Park, and many families who have been profoundly changed by the ministry of the Covenant. I believe God has big plans for the next generation, and I can’t wait to see them unfold within the Covenant.”

Paul Robinson, executive minister of Serve Locally, said, “I am pleased to invite Pete to the Serve Locally team. He brings 25 years’ experience in youth ministry. He has a heart for young people and passion for the gospel. Pete will help us reestablish and expand our footprint in youth and young adult ministries. We’re looking forward to the impact he will have across our movement.”

For nearly three decades, Pete has been doing pastoral ministry, curriculum development, and leadership training. Specifically, he has expertise leading and developing teams in high-performance contexts, which prepares him to guide Serve Locally ministry initiatives for emerging generations of young people. Pete has served as an adjunct instructor at North Park University, teaching on youth ministry, pastoral care, and discipleship. He earned a bachelor of arts in biblical studies with an emphasis on Christian education from Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio, and a master of arts in biblical studies from the Wheaton College Graduate School.

A native Chicagoland suburbanite, Pete and his wife, Jocelyn, have seven children and two grandchildren. He began in his role on July 15 and says he looks forward to connecting with more Covenanters on social media.
