PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KS (May 5, 2011) – Hillcrest Covenant Church is planning neighborhood “Stuff Sales” to raise funds in partnership with Covenant World Relief (CWR) to provide humanitarian assistance in Japan.
At least 15 homes are expected to have sales of items that will be donated by people from the church. The sales are slated for June 4.
The Covenant’s relief and development ministry already is working with 23 Japanese Covenant Churches that are working with congregations in the two hardest-hit regions of Sendai and Morioka.
Brookwood Members Join Others to Repair Homes
TOPEKA, KS – Members of Brookwood Covenant Church repaired the ceiling of a Topeka resident’s home as part of Rebuilding Together, a citywide project conducted in partnership with several other area congregations. This was the 13th year for the project.
“It’s just a little bit of giving back,” Covenanter Jeff Myers said. “I’ve had a lot of people help me, and I like to give back whenever I can.”
Churches Sponsoring Anti-Trafficking Events
CHICAGO, IL – Two Evangelical Covenant Church congregations are sponsoring community-wide anti-trafficking forums.
Patterson Covenant Church in Patterson, California, will host a forum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Living Hope Covenant Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, will host its first MAD (“Making a Difference”) event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 14.
Speakers at the Patterson event will discuss all aspects of human trafficking and answer questions at this free event. Among the presenters will be Kathy Wilson of New Day for Children, a recipient of funds from the Department of Women Ministries Break the Chains project.
Presenters at the Living Hope gathering will focus on trafficking labor- and sex-related trafficking. Additionally, various fair-trade vendors as well as local and global ministries will be on-hand. Cost is $10. All money beyond the cost for lunch will be donated to Cinderella House.
