Obituary: Geraldine (Deater) Peterson

OTSEGO, MI (August 28, 2019) – A funeral service for Geraldine “Gerry” (Deater) Peterson, widow of Covenant minister Norris Peterson, was held Thursday, August 22, at the First Congregational Church in Otsego, Michigan. She died Sunday, August 18, at the age of 92.

She was born September 7, 1926, in Muskegon, Michigan, to Rufus Leroy and Geraldine Deater.

Gerry earned a teaching degree from Bob Jones University. She taught first through fourth grades. She married Norris on July 13, 1957.

They served Bretton Woods Covenant Church in Lansing, Michigan; Westside Covenant Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan; First Covenant Church in Fresno, California, and Highland Covenant Church in Bellevue, Washington.

Gerry is survived by her daughter, Patricia Youngs (Darin), of Otsego, Michigan; a son, Gregory (Venisa), of Ludington, Michigan; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, sister, and twin brother.

Memorials may be given to the First Congregational Church, 120 W. Morrell St., Otsego, MI 49078; and Wings of Hope Hospice, 530 Linn St., Allegan, MI 49010.
