Church Starts Support Group For Unemployed
OAK LAWN, IL (September 12, 2011) – Trinity Evangelical Covenant Church will start a weekly networking and support group to help people who are out of work.
The program is much needed in the community, says Charlene Sandberg of Trinity. “Over 2,000 people are unemployed in Oak Lawn alone. This program will help people in resume writing and career direction, as well as giving them unlimited access to a world-class career search portal.”
The portal is through the Career Crossroads Network, a network of more than 170 congregations across the country that use the program’s six-week class material and other resources.
“We pray that this ministry becomes a catalyst in helping the many people in our area find work as well as experiencing hope and encouragement during the process,” says Sandberg.
Beginning September 19, the group will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Camp Leaders Compete in Marathons
DEWITTVILLE, NY (September 12, 2011) – Two members of the board of directors for Mission Meadows Bible Camp will compete against each other in separate marathons as they raise funds and awareness for the camp’s Legacy of Faith capital campaign.
Jeff Ondrey, a member of Zion Covenant Church in Jamestown, New York, will run the Corning Wineglass Marathon in Corning, New York, on October 2. On the same day, Pam Laing, a member of Sanctuary Columbus Church in Columbus, Ohio, will run the Twin Cities Marathon in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sanctuary is a plant of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
According to the camp’s light-hearted promotional material, the competition pits “older versus younger, male versus female, grouchy old administrator versus friendly HR coordinator.”
The secondary challenge to raising the most money is to finish the 26.2-mile race. Donors can cast their votes on who they think will finish with the best time as well as pledge different donation levels per mile.
