Rev. Dr. Steve Wong will join the denominational team of the Evangelical Covenant Church as the part-time coordinator of adult discipleship on October 1. He will serve on the Make and Deepen Disciples team, where he will strategize, develop, and lead discipleship resources, programs, and initiatives for adults. He will work alongside colleagues who lead children’s and youth ministries, as well as with affiliate ministry partners. His work will also support the continuation and integration of the Covenant’s Crescendo ministry.
“The Crescendo team has been an innovative source of resources for discipleship for those who are sixty and older,” Wong said via email. “I’ve been working with Crescendo for eight years, and now I’m excited to bring that sense of passion and creativity into developing a vision for lifelong discipleship as I work with the rest of the Make and Deepen Disciples team.”

He has a heart for adult discipleship, extensive pastoral experience, and a passion for the gospel of Jesus Christ. He will help us expand and enhance our adult discipleship offerings. Wong is the founding pastor of Grace Community Covenant Church in Los Altos, California, the first Asian American Covenant church plant. He earned an MDiv from Talbot School of Theology and a PhD in clinical psychology from Rosemead School of Psychology, both at Biola University. He earned a certificate in spiritual direction from North Park Theological Seminary, where he currently serves as an adjunct professor teaching courses in intercultural spirituality. Wong has served on the Board of the Ordered Ministry, including as chair; on the board of the Covenant Asian Pastors Association; and on the Crescendo leadership team.
A native Californian born and raised in San Francisco, Wong and his wife, Winnie, live in San Jose, California, with their seventeen-year-old dog, Wilbur. They have three adult children. He is an avid U2 and Coldplay fan and loves to play tennis. He enjoys playing the guitar and cheering for the Golden State Warriors. He also enjoys Chinese bitter melon and is a connoisseur of ginger beer. He says he looks forward to connecting with more Covenanters about the existing discipleship needs within our churches.
