Changing the way the world thinks about adults with disabilities

Brookwood is seeking a passionate and dedicated Director of Spiritual Life to lead and nurture the spiritual environment across our community for adults with intellectual disabilities. This role serves as both a pastoral leader and spiritual guide, supporting our Citizens (residents), Community Members (staff), and families through meaningful worship, pastoral care, and God-centered programming.

What You’ll Do

As the Director of Spiritual Life, you will lead and shape the spiritual culture of Brookwood by:

Spiritual Leadership
  • Preparing and leading Sunday worship services, including preaching, prayer, and coordinating volunteers and A/V support.
  • Developing and overseeing Spiritual Life programming, including weekly devotionals and non-Sunday evening activities.
  • Leading All-Community Worship services for the entire campus three times per year.
Pastoral Care
  • Serving as the primary pastor for Residential Citizens, offering pastoral care, counseling, and support.
  • Acting as chaplain for Citizens and Community Members, providing spiritual guidance, Bible studies, and devotionals.
  • Visiting Citizens who are sick or unable to attend services and supporting those in times of grief or transition.
Community Engagement
  • Building meaningful relationships with Citizens, Community Members, and families.
  • Collaborating with the Community Life team to support programming and campus activities.
  • Sharing Brookwood’s unique model of spiritual care through tours, conferences, and learning opportunities.
Program Leadership
  • Overseeing the Handbell Program and supervising the Director of the program.
  • Managing the Spiritual Life internship program, including recruitment, mentoring, and supervision of interns.
  • Managing the Spiritual Life department budget, reporting, and donor partnerships.
Ministry Support
  • Writing a weekly devotional message for the community.
  • Supporting families during times of loss and leading Celebration of Life services for Citizens.
  • Serving on the Brookwood Leadership Team, Citizen Life Team, and Community Life Team.
  • Above all, this role centers on prayer, spiritual encouragement, and cultivating a Christ-centered culture throughout the community.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Theological Degree Preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Christian ministry experience
  • Experience working with people with disabilities preferred, but not required
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong abilities in preaching, teaching, worship leadership, and pastoral counseling
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build meaningful relationships with diverse individuals and families
  • Comfortable leading activities and engaging with Citizens in community and recreational settings
Character & Calling

The Director of Spiritual Life serves as the campus pastor and should strive to live according to the qualities outlined for spiritual leaders in 1 Timothy 3:2–8. Candidates should demonstrate:

  • A daily walk with God
  • Humility, patience, wisdom, and compassion
  • A commitment to truth and Christ-centered leadership
  • The ability to minister to individuals from various faith backgrounds with grace and respect

  • The Bible (Old and New Testaments) as the Word of God and the perfect rule for faith and conduct.
