Meyer to Conclude Service at End of Year

CHICAGO, IL (February 29, 2012) – Donald L. Meyer will retire at the end of this year, concluding 15 years of service as executive minister of the Department of Communication of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), it was announced today.

“I feel I have completed the work God called me here to do,” Meyer said. “I also believe it is a good time for new, younger leadership with a fresh vision to join in building upon the strong communications foundation that has been developed by a talented team with whom I have been privileged to work.”

A search for a replacement will begin in the fall, said ECC President Gary Walter, who also noted that Meyer’s continued involvement throughout that process will help ensure an orderly transition in leadership.

“Don has been a valued part of Covenant leadership since he began his work at Covenant Offices in August of 1997,” Walter said, “and has led the department through an amazing transformation during his tenure. In addition to oversight of the award-winning Companion and many other print publications, Don led his team in creating our website and improving our online presence as well as integrating social media and mobile technologies. In recent years, the addition of a video production team has opened broader avenues of communication, allowing live video streaming of our events as well as production of countless DVDs and online videos on Covenant ministries. And as much as I appreciate Don’s tireless work, I appreciate even more his heart for ministry with which he accomplishes it.

“Communication is key to deepening our identity and cohesion,” Walter added, “and Don and his team have made sure we can do it even more effectively.”

Meyer and his wife, Wendy, who serves as office coordinator in the Anesthesiology Department at Swedish Covenant Hospital, will relocate to their home in Arizona.
