One-Day Fundraiser for Alaska College Sweet 16 Birthday

Alaska Christian College student

SOLDOTNA, AK (September 11, 2017) — Alaska Christian College is turning Sweet 16 this year and celebrating record enrollment of 84 students.

The school will hold its second annual one-day giving challenge on Friday, September 15, with a goal of raising $25,000 to benefit the school’s $200,000 scholarship fund. Last year the school raised $18,000.

Nearly all ACC students are from rural Alaskan villages. The school helps students transition to the four-year university system or back to their villages with one of three associate’s degrees: in Christian ministry, paraprofessional education, or behavioral health.

At last year’s fifteenth anniversary celebration, ground was broken for the Taikuu Residence Hall, which will help the school handle the increased enrollment. The new residence hall is 75 percent completed, 90 percent funded, and will add 34 beds for a total of 105 beds on campus. The building also will provide increased discipleship opportunities and develop an even stronger sense of community.

ACC will again invite churches and workers to campus next summer to assist in preparing the residence hall to open in the fall of 2018. “I’m immensely grateful for the more than 400 people from 23 Covenant churches who traveled to Soldotna to help with construction and other campus projects this past summer,” said President Keith Hamilton.
