Lund Lectures to Be Webcast Live

CHICAGO, IL (September 19, 2017) – The Nils W. Lund lectures will be presented from 9 a.m. to noon September 27-28 at Isaacson Chapel at North Park Theological Seminary.

This annual two-day lectureship is free and open to the public. The lectures also will be webcast on the events’ respective websites.

Lecturers will be Brent A. Strawn, professor of Old Testament at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology; and Grant Macaskill, Kirby Laing Chair of New Testament exegesis, at King’s College, University of Aberdeen. The speakers will present their lectures at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. each day.

Strawn, who will give the Wednesday, September 27, lecture, conducts research in ancient Near Eastern iconography, the Dead Sea Scrolls, Israelite religion, legal traditions of the Old Testament, and Old Testament theology.

Macaskill has written a two-volume commentary on Romans for the International Theological Commentary series. His other publications have included extensive treatments of theological issues in the New Testament, notably union with Christ.

The lectures will precede the seminary’s 32nd Symposium on the Theological Interpretation of Scripture, which features prominent scholars from around the world and provides a forum for interdisciplinary theology from a biblical perspective for the benefit of the church.

This year’s symposium will focus on “Participation/Union with Christ.” The event will begin at 7 p.m. on September 28 in Nyvall Hall and will conclude with an afternoon worship service on September 30.

The event is open to the public, but registration is required.
