CHICAGO, IL (November 24, 2017) — Covenanters routinely share links to social media articles and videos that Covenant News Service believes may be of interest to others. Each Friday we post five of them. Following is a sample of those submissions—their inclusion does not represent an endorsement by the Covenant of any views expressed.
New Street Art Made Entirely Out of Trash
This is sort of how God works.
From the article: “Bordalo draws attention to wastefulness by creating massive vibrant animals out of discarded plastic, car parts, and other trash—and the whimsical designs are unlike anything you’ve ever seen.”
He Gives Haircuts to Homeless, Given Own Barbershop
Brennon Jones felt he needed to do more for the homeless people he passed by, but then the former barber decided he could give free haircuts.
From the article: “He cut the man’s hair right there on the sidewalk—the first of hundreds he would do in coming months. He called his operation ‘Haircuts for Homeless’ and took to social media to advertise his services and post livestreams of the haircuts on Facebook, which quickly went viral.”
Best-Laid Plans Implode at Last Second
You plan and you plan and all seems perfect. Then circumstances beyond your control ruin everything, and there will never be a second chance. That is what happened to a film crew from the Weather Channel, which was set up to film the implosion of the Georgia Dome. The channel made light of it, but you know the pain will last for a long time.
From the article: “The bus did still not move. The dome crumbled to an enormous pile of ash. Rudge screamed in what sounded like anguish. Then, as quickly as it arrived, the bus glided off the moment the spectacle ended.”
Holocaust Survivor Meets Newly Discovered Nephew
Tech-savvy children and grandchildren have been helping to reunite Holocaust survivors and other family members by accessing Israel’s Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial’s comprehensive online database of Holocaust victims and testimony.
From the article: “Eliahu Pietruszka shuffled his 102-year-old body through the lobby of his retirement home toward a stranger he had never met and collapsed into him in a teary embrace. Then he kissed both cheeks of his visitor and in a frail, squeaky voice began blurting out greetings in Russian, a language he hadn’t spoken in decades.”
Police Dog Does Pushups Alongside Officers
Think of it as a brief workout video for the day after Thanksgiving.
From the article: “Gulf Shores police Cpl. Josh Coleman said the seven-second video is part of a social media trend — #9PMRoutine — began by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Department in Florida. Coleman said the 9 p.m. routine is one way law enforcement agencies are reminding people to remove valuables from cars and lock up at the end of the day.”
