TURLOCK, CA (June 23, 2018) – A memorial service for Margaret (Palmquist) Grant, who co-led a national children’s ministry, will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 2, at Turlock Covenant Church. She died June 10, 2018.
Margaret, 91, was born June 15, 1926, in Chicago to Charles and Sigrid Palmquist. By age 14, she was well known for her dramatic readings and sermons across Chicago.
After graduating from high school two years early, she attended Venard College, which was a nondenominational Christian college in University Park, Iowa.
Margaret and Willard Grant were married in 1945. After attending Seattle Pacific University and North Park Theological Seminary, they formed Creative Evangelism Inc., a national evangelistic ministry geared to children. The couple also ministered in Canada and Asia.
They were known for illustrating Bible stories through music, storytelling, and art—and especially their handmade wood marionettes. They performed in front of groups numbering from a few hundred to 5,000 children at time.
After 40 years of child evangelism, the couple retired in 1983. They continued to minister with their puppet ministry locally.
Besides Willard, Margaret was preceded in death by a grandson. She is survived by one daughter, Maureen Toll (Douglas) of Clifton, Kansas; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
