LMDJ Accepting Donations for Florence Relief, Recovery

CHICAGO, IL (September 21, 2018) – Love Mercy Do Justice (LMDJ) is working to assess the best way for Covenant ministries to assist victims of Florence’s catastrophic storms and flooding, executive minister Cecilia Williams, said today.

“We are in consultation with Covenant World Relief and Merge Ministries, who partners with us on immediate and short-term volunteer response during disasters, as well as World Renew for long-term recovery options,” Williams said. The ministry also is working with local churches, regional conferences, and their partners.

Covenanters can partner with LMDJ by giving to ECC Domestic Disaster Response. “We are grateful for your gifts and especially for your continued prayers for all those in need during these difficult days of recovery,” Williams said.

At least 37 people have died. Thousands of people remain in shelters. More than 160,000 people are without power. Two major highways and hundreds of other roads remain closed. In some areas, helicopters are flying in supplies to residents who are cut off by the floodwaters.

State and federal officials said they expect waters in some rivers to continue rising to record levels over the weekend. “I know for many people this feels like a nightmare that just won’t end,” North Carolina governor Roy Cooper said.
