Nancy (Kristoffersen) Dahlberg

(June 5, 2020) – Nancy (Kristoffersen) Dahlberg, wife of the late executive secretary of Covenant World Mission Raymond Dahlberg, died on May 31 in Northbrook, Illinois. She was 86.

Born on June 28, 1933, in Chicago to Karl and Sigfrid Kristoffersen, both Norwegian immigrants, Nancy graduated from Steinmetz High School and Swedish Covenant Hospital Nursing School.

She married Ray Dahlberg on September 11, 1954. Upon Ray’s completion of studies at North Park Seminary in 1955 and his ordination in 1956, they served churches in Minneapolis and North Mankato in Minnesota, and Portland, Oregon. Ray served as the superintendent of the Pacific Northwest Conference before being elected as executive secretary.

Nancy continued her work as a nurse, but believed that her true calling was to be a minister’s wife and to teach women the Bible. She found a way to use her gifts in leading Bible studies in her churches, her neighborhoods, and as a teaching director for Community Bible Study, which she led for 33 years, teaching the Bible to hundreds of women every week.

In retirement, Ray and Nancy were members of Northbrook (Illinois) Covenant Church, where she continued to lead a small Bible study until the COVID-19 crisis.

Nancy was preceded in death by Ray in 2013.

She is survived by her children, Lyn Hedstrom (Bill), Mark Dahlberg (Laura), Scott Dahlberg (Julie), and Kris Gallegos (Raun), eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Due to the pandemic, Nancy’s memorial service and burial will be for immediate family only. A drive-up visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, June 6, from noon to 1:30 CDT, at Northbrook Covenant Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nancy’s honor to Community Bible Study here or to any Serve Globally ministry of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

Peace be to her memory.
