Lois E. Weborg, wife of retired pastor and North Park Theological Seminary professor John Weborg, died Tuesday, February 16. She was 88.
Lois was born on March 14, 1932, in Galesburg, Illinois, to Covenant pastor Alfred and Marie Johnson.
She graduated from North Park Junior College and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and then taught school.
Lois and John were married on June 7, 1953, while he was serving at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Lincoln.
They served Covenant churches in Peoria, Illinois; Springhouse, Pennsylvania; and Princeton, Illinois.
Lois was a gifted pianist, organist, and seamstress. For a number of years, she designed and sewed stoles for ordinands, often 50-60 per year, with a new theme each year. One year she designed and sewed all of the altar and pulpit cloths for the church year for the seminary chapel at North Park. Lois wrote a biblical and theological exposition of the themes.
She led children’s church at North Park Covenant Church in Chicago for many years.
Survivors include her husband, John; children, Clement Weborg (Sharon) and Catherine Allicks (James); and six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Princeton. Due to Covid restrictions, seating is limited and by reservation only. Reservations can be made beginning at 9 a.m. today. The service will be livestreamed on Facebook.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton. Masks and social distancing will be required, and the number of people in the building at a time will be limited. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.
