Al Tizon Resigns as Executive Minister of Serve Globally

On July 17, 2021, Al Tizon resigned as executive minister of Serve Globally, effective August 31, 2021. The Evangelical Covenant Church is grateful for all he has done to serve the Covenant both domestically and globally. Tizon has served as executive minister since 2015.

“I am so grateful for Al’s outstanding contribution to the mission,” said John Wenrich, president of the Evangelical Covenant Church. “As a missiologist, Al’s transition is a great loss to our denominational and Serve Globally teams. It was especially meaningful to me when Al and I traveled together to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, meeting our partners, and getting to know global personnel. I am praying for God’s blessing to be upon his life in this next season of ministry.”

“Thank you for the opportunity to lead the church’s mission around the world these last six years,” said Tizon. “Believe me when I say that Serve Globally’s personnel, staff of our various ministries, and our national partners in five regions are heroes. I will miss working with them.”

“I am grateful for Al’s leadership of the Serve Globally mission priority. Thanks to his tireless effort and hard work serving this team, much missional fruit is being borne from the seeds faithfully sown,” said Angela Yee, chief ministry officer. “We celebrate the proclamation and practice of the holistic gospel globally, the support and mobilization of global personnel, and the initiatives and resources that engage kingdom work internationally. My deepest thanks and gratitude for Al’s service and leadership.”

Tizon has engaged in community development, church leadership, advocacy, and urban ministry both in the Philippines and the United States. He is also the author and editor of six books, including Whole & Reconciled: Gospel, Church, and Mission in a Fractured World (Baker Academic, 2018) and Missional Preaching: Engage, Embrace, Transform (Judson 2012).
