Retired Covenant pastor Donald Bowers passed away in Rancho Cucamonga, California, on June 5, 2025. He was 87.
Donald D. Bowers was born in New Hudson, Michigan, on April 11, 1938.
On December 26, 1959, Donald married his wife, Rosalie; their union produced four children: Brent, Todd, Jodi, and Kari.
Don graduated from Azusa Pacific College in 1961 and went on to earn master’s degrees from California State University at Northridge in 1964 and Asuza Pacific in 1970. He was awarded the Founders Award at High Desert Christian Day School in 1969.
Don was ordained by the Missionary Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He transferred his ordination to the Evangelical Covenant Church in 1980, around the same time he helped to plant a Covenant church in Alta Loma, California.
In a ministry career that spanned over 30 years, Donald and his family served several Covenant churches in the Pacific Southwest Conference, including Village Covenant Church in Asuza, California, and Orange Covenant Church in Orange, California. In his later years, he also served Commission Church (formerly Cucamonga Christian Fellowship) of the Free Methodists.
A memorial service in his honor was held at Commission Church on June 28, 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be sent to Commission Church here.
