This Advent, we journey through the genealogy of Jesus as recorded in Matthew 1, exploring the stories of individuals who faced exile, displacement, and marginalization. Through their lives, we see how God’s plan of redemption unfolds in the most unexpected ways, often through those who were refugees, outcasts, or strangers in foreign lands. Each week, we reflect on a different ancestor of Jesus, drawing parallels to the experiences of refugees today and contemplating how the birth of Christ – himself a refugee – calls us to embrace and support the displaced. This devotion challenges us to see the divine in the lives of those who seek refuge and to respond with compassion, recognizing that in welcoming them, we welcome Christ himself.
