Health Insurance Premium Credit Proves Valuable

CHICAGO, IL (May 9, 2011) – Evangelical Covenant churches that have applied for a special tax credit on health insurance premiums have received between $400 and $10,000 from the government, says Dean Lundgren, director of pensions and vice president of finance for the Evangelical Covenant Church.

The deadline to apply for the tax credit is May 15. Churches can seek a credit of up to 25 percent of health insurance premiums paid last year.

This new provision is part of the Health Care Tax Credit for Small Employers that was included in the Affordable Care Act enacted by Congress in March 2010.
