Votes Needed to Win ACC a School Van

SOLDOTNA, AK (May 16, 2011) – Covenanters have the opportunity to help Alaska Christian College (ACC) win a new much-needed van on Friday.

Toyota is sponsoring the 100 Cars for Good program, which will award 100 vehicles over the course of 100 days. Five nonprofits will compete against each other on a particular day, and the organization receiving the most votes will win the vehicle.

“We’ve used mini-vans and two 15-passenger vans to transport our 40 students,” says ACC President Keith Hamilton. The heavy usage is wearing out the vehicles.

The school hopes to increase its full-time enrollment to 60 students and to achieve accreditation by February so that it can offer an associate’s degree program, Hamilton says. Winning the vehicle will enable the school to direct more resources to faculty, books, and classroom space.

People wanting to vote on Friday should click here and can vote without going any further on the site. To receive a reminder on Friday to vote, click on the link above and then hit the forward arrow by the date until it reaches May 20. Click on the reminder button.

Hamilton says an independent panel of experts in philanthropy and social responsibility chose the school to be one of the finalists.

A homeless shelter operated by Jesus People USA Covenant Church fell just .02 percent short of winning $15,000 to redevelop a playground in a different contest sponsored by a different organization earlier this month.
