In Wake of Fire, Pastor’s Family Moves to Temporary Housing

SAGINAW, MI (October 5, 2011) – Brad Shannon, pastor of New Life Covenant Church in Saginaw, Minnesota, and his family plan to move into a mobile home that has been delivered to the property where his former home, which burned to the ground last month, stood.

The 14 by 56-foot trailer has two bedrooms and one bathroom. Shannon says his family of five expects to live in the trailer at least through spring.

Shannon, his wife, Brooke, and three young children have stayed in hotels during the three weeks since the fire.

The family has been overwhelmed by the support they have received from the church and broader community. “I can’t say enough about how generous people have been to us,” says Shannon.

Volunteers have helped clear the property for the trailer. The owner of an excavation company donated his time to dig up the land so the home could be hooked up to the existing septic system.

Despite losing all their possession and being uprooted, Shannon says, “We’re doing as well as can be expected.”

The home was destroyed the morning of September 17 while the family was out of town. The cause remains undetermined. To read a previous story on the fire, click here.
