CHICAGO, IL (April 11, 2012) – The new tagline for Covenant World Relief, “Partners in Transformation,” will give a better understanding of the breadth of the ministry, says director Dave Husby. It will appear on all printed materials and videos.
Covenant World Relief (CWR) is the humanitarian aid ministry of the Evangelical Covenant Church, offering immediate relief in the wake of disasters, but also long-term community development support.
“This tag line will help to communicate CWR’s involvement in long-term community development as well as our work through partnerships,” Husby says.
He notes that the ministry serves the world’s most vulnerable people who suffer extreme poverty, hunger, disease, and injustice.
The CWR website defines relief as, “immediate assistance in times of natural or human-made disaster by providing water, shelter, and food.” Transformational development is defined as “working with communities and families as they help themselves through micro-enterprise, micro-finance, sustainable water development, community health initiatives, agriculture, and sustainable food programs.”
The “Partners in Transformation” tagline has three levels of meaning, Husby says. It references CWR’s commitment to partner with God, with Covenanters, and with local organizations “to see more disciples among more populations in a more caring and just world.” The logo was created by Design Services in the Department of Communication.
Partnering with local organizations is critical to the ministry and provides the best stewardship of financial resources that Covenanters contribute. In addition to greatly reducing overhead costs, the local economy is strengthened when funds are used to purchase materials there, which also strengthens the local employment base.
