Targeting ‘Les Miserables’ to Christians Pays Off – This isn’t surprising. It’s one of the greatest Christian stories ever told. I am confused by the beginning of the story, which reads, “In spite of tepid reviews from some film critics …” This is a movie that has been panned by some critics, but loved by many more. It did win several Golden Globe awards, including best picture for a musical or comedy, and has been nominated for several Oscars, including best picture.
What Les Miserables Teaches about Prayer – Jean Valjean, and the police officer determined to bring him to “justice,” both offer prayers that are as different as the men who pray them. Valjean focuses on transformation and seeing the world differently. Javert, the officer, knows God is on his side and is determined that nothing will change. We all can be inspired to the former and guilty of the latter.
Why I Am Still an Evangelical – “Evangelical” is a word that has fallen out of favor for various reasons, even among many Christians who once identified with it. Alister Chapman, an associate professor of church history at Wheaton College, says evangelicals have not always behaved as they should, but “it is right to recognize that their tradition has brought much good, not least through a restless activism that has taken on all sorts of injustices.”
Book Review: ‘Rob Bell and a New American Christianity’ – When Rob Bell writes, people read and take sides. That has been true with Covenanters, who also have shared links for a new book about the controversial minister and author. This is one of those. Like “Why I am Still an Evangelical,” it speaks to the issue of identity.
Twitter Is In the Bible – Evangelicals do have a sense of humor.
