Covenant Shores Savors the Taste of Victory

MERCER ISLAND, WA (February 20, 2014) — Some 100 residents of Covenant Shores retirement community adorned in their Seattle Seahawks colors savored the wonderful taste of victory on Tuesday as they sipped tea sent to them by Covenant Village of Colorado, the spoils of a wager on the Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl Tea Party included prizes awarded to the best 12th Man costumes and an original victory song written by chaplain Greg Asimakoupoulos to the tune of “Tea for Two.”

During a presentation to the gathering Covenant Shores executive director Bruce Erickson was recounting the history of the bet and the surrounding media coverage, but then he received a phone call from a staff member pretending to be a Mercer Island police officer.

The caller indicated that the department had received complaints about illegal gambling at Covenant Shores. Erickson then announced to the revelers that there actually had been no wager, just a simple gift exchange.

As proof, he said, a box of apples was being sent to the Colorado campus.

Several days of celebration at Covenant Shores began with former Seahawks star quarterback and coach Jim Zorn speaking at the monthly men’s breakfast.
