QUITO, ECUADOR (May 20, 2014) — Retired Covenant missionary Helen (Peterson) Yepez died Monday. Her funeral was held today in Ibarra, Ecuador.

Helen was born October 6, 1926, in Kingsburg, California, and raised in the Kingsburg Covenant Church.

She earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of California and was a registered nurse. She attended North Park Bible Institute.

She was commissioned as a career missionary for Ecuador in 1951. Her ministry was focused on nursing and evangelism. She lived in Quito for the first years of her time in Ecuador.

In 1957, Helen married Cosme Yepez, and she lived the rest of her life in Ibarra, where she was a pillar of the Covenant church and helped with the administration of the Covenant school, 4th of July School.

Missionary colleague Marlan Enns remembers her as a gifted and committed servant of Christ Jesus, saying, “She was an amazing woman!”
