CHICAGO, IL (November 14, 2014) — The North Park men’s soccer team will begin its quest for a national championship this weekend after earning its fourth trip in the last five seasons to the NCAA Division III National Tournament this afternoon.
North Park, which finished the season with an overall record of 13-5-1, and a second-place finish in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), will face Thomas More College (17-2-1) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. (Central) at Mavec Field on the campus of Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.
This will be North Park’s sixth tournament appearance since 2005. The Vikings advanced to the final of the Loras College regional in 2012 with a 4-1 win over Washington University-St. Louis before losing to Loras College 1-0 in the second round.
Thomas More earned a spot in the tourney after the Saints defeated Grove City 1-0 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championship game on November 8 to earn the PAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA National Tournament.
If the Vikings win, they will face off against the winner of the contest between Kenyon College and Heidelberg University this Sunday at 12 p.m. CST.
Saturday’s game will be webcast live via the Kenyon College Athletics website.
