Seniors, New Immigrants Learn from Each Other

GOLDEN VALLEY, MN (February 13, 2017) — For the past three years, residents of Covenant Village of Golden Valley retirement community have been partnering with a local organization to enhance learning for adult immigrants through storytelling and conversation.

The program enables the students to learn American history and English from the Golden Valley residents, who in turn, learn about other cultures.

“It’s good for improving my English,” Libero Cadalino, a student from Mexico, told a local news broadcast. “It’s very important learning English because I live in the U.S.”

“We try to get them to talk about their home country because they really want to learn English,” Covenant Village resident Ruth Clemmons said. “To learn English you need to talk and you need somebody talking to you.”
