Obituary: Ethel (Svedlund) Cedarleaf

SCITUATE, MA (May 17, 2017) – A memorial service for Ethel Svedlund Cedarleaf, widow of Covenant minister Wallace “Wally” Cedarleaf, will be conducted at 10 a.m. on June 3 at First Trinitarian Congregational Church in Scituate. Ethel, 96, died March 24 at her home in Oakley, Utah.

She was born on January 24, 1921, in Arlington, Massachusetts, to immigrants Selma Johnson and John Svedlund. She married Wally on July 14, 1945.

The couple served at the Kallman Children’s Home in Brooklyn, New York, and at Evangelical Covenant churches in New Sweden, Maine; Corona, Long Island; and Holden, Massachusetts. They ministered to people from around the world while Wally served as chaplain at the New England Seafarers Mission in Boston. The couple also served at a United Church of Christ congregation in Sidney, New York.

Wally preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, David Cedarleaf, daughter, Diane Cedarleaf, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
