CHICAGO (June 30, 2017) — The search committee seeking candidates to be the tenth president of North Park University has created an online survey where anyone can share their thoughts about the process, as well as on the university’s strengths and challenges. It is available here through July 31, 2017.
“The committee hopes that Covenanters will join North Park alumni, faculty, students, and staff—and, in fact, anyone interested in the future of the university—in taking 15 minutes to complete this survey,” said Owen R. Youngman, chair of the committee and a member of the North Park Board of Trustees who attends Libertyville (IL) Covenant Church. “The results will help us to set priorities for the search and to evaluate potential candidates.”
Youngman, a professor in the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, led a roundtable discussion about the search with delegates to the 132nd Annual Meeting of the Covenant last week in Detroit. Delegates were asked to share their views about the key roles and ideal attributes of the next president, and important elements of previous experience that might appear on a candidate’s résumé. A video of the presentation is posted online.
Results of the survey will be published in late August on the committee’s website.
As previously announced, the 15-person committee has been instructed to present a candidate to the full Board of Trustees by early 2018. Approval by the NPU Board of the Trustees, the Executive Board of the Covenant, and the Annual Meeting of the ECC is required to call a successor to David L. Parkyn, who retired as of today.
Carl Balsam begins serving as interim president on Saturday.
