Cunliffe: Covenant Village of Florida Prepared for Storm

PLANTATION, FL (September 7, 2017) – Emergency precautions have been set in place for Covenant Village of Florida (CVOF) ahead of Hurricane Irma, said Terri Cunliffe, president and chief executive officer of Covenant Retirement Communities (CRC), in a statement today.

The statement read, in part:

“The campus has a detailed plan, has secured extra supplies, and is prepared to provide meals and drinking water throughout the hurricane and in the days to follow. CVOF has diesel-powered generators that will provide essential power to the campus should there be a loss of electrical power during or after the storm. Healthcare areas are fully protected with hurricane shutters and some areas throughout residential living.

“CVOF phone lines will be rerouted to the central office (in Chicago) from Saturday, September 9, through Wednesday, September 13. Central office will be staffing a 24/7 call center to handle these calls and to allow the CVOF staff to concentrate their efforts on taking care of the residents and staff members. A live Skype video link will be set up between the campus and the central office as long as there is Internet service at the community. The CVOF team also has the ability to make phone calls via a satellite phone.

“In addition, intermittent storm and campus updates will be posted to the home pages of the CRC and CVOF websites to inform family members and friends of the status of the storm. Central office support will be onsite during the storm and will send post-hurricane support to help with the expected cleanup efforts following Hurricane Irma’s departure. In the meantime, pray for the safety of the residents of CVOF.”

Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center said there is a high probability that Irma, which has devastated part of the Caribbean with winds in excess of 185 miles per hour, will strike southern Florida sometime Sunday.
