Irma Causes ‘Significant Roof Damage’ to Kingdom Covenant Church

MIAMI, FL (September 12, 2017) — Kingdom Covenant Church in Miami, Florida, suffered “significant roof damage” from Hurricane Irma but no leaking, treasurer and Covenant minister Doris Granberry said today. The church also was without power.

Most Covenant churches reported that they suffered only minor damage or no damage at all, said Mary Ann Owens, administrative assistant for the Southeast Conference.

Due to widespread power and phone outages, no information has been available for Key Largo Community Covenant Church. Irma battered the Florida Keys, where 25 percent of homes are reported to have been destroyed. Residents who evacuated the area are not being allowed back in.

As of this afternoon, Florida Power & Light Company had restored power to 2.3 million customers. At least 4.4 million customers were still without power.

The company said power on the east coast should be fully restored by this Sunday. Most power on the west coast is expected to be restored by September 22.
