More Than $213,000 Donated to Hurricane Relief, Recovery

CHICAGO, IL (September 21, 2017) – More than $213,000 has been donated by Covenanters to help the victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, Cecilia Williams, executive minister of Love Mercy Do Justice, said today.

“We are simply overwhelmed by the generosity and compassionate hearts of so many Covenanters who have demonstrated through prayer, giving, and going their deep care for those suffering from the devastating effects of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma,” she said. “Through the generous giving of benevolent Covenanters, our churches and their partners on the ground have been able to respond with immediate relief to include the provision of clean water, food, temporary shelter, debris removal, and minor home repair.”

Some of the money already has been sent to churches to help congregations provide needed services and supplies for their community.

The best process for connecting churches that want to help with recovery with the needs of the area still is being determined, Williams said. “But we are confident that long after the cameras and major news outlets have gone, and specifically, as the work begins to turn from relief to long-term recovery, the Covenant will remain. And we will continue to be used by God to bring restoration, and healing and hope. That is just who we are!”
